How To Figure Out Your Skin Type
We all have different skin types, so some of the products that work on someone else might not work on you. But that’s okay because there are products out there that are made for specific skin care types. Before going out and purchasing new skin care products, it’s important to know the different skin types out there.
Normal Skin
A normal type is someone who has well-balanced skin. Basically your skin is not too dry but it doesn’t produce an excessive amount of oil. Usually some products may not make your skin react. Normal skin types usually have fine pores, a smooth texture, and can often look radiant.
Dry Skin
A dry skin type can be described as a skin type that does not produce enough sebum. Due to the lack of sebum, the skin dries out because it can’t retain moisture. Dry skin types usually has red patches, dull, visible lines, rough texture, and can often be flaky. If you have a dry skin type your skin can sometimes feel tight. It is important to moisturize your skin. One of my favorite carry on moisturizers that was recommended by my dermatologist is the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion: for normal to dry skin. You can purchase this at Ulta, Target, or your local pharmacy.
Oily Skin
Oily skin is due to an overproduction of sebum. This is known as seborrhea. The amount of oil produced varies between each person and it can be mild or up to a more severe case. Some of the reasons why some people may have oily skin is because of genetics, stress, medication, comedogenic products, or a hormonal change. People with oily skin often have enlarged pores, your skin appears to be shiny, and you may have blemishes or blackheads. One of the products that I use, and that I have also recommended to others is blotting sheets. You can get them at your local pharmacy or beauty store. These are very helpful and picks up excessive oil without completely ruining your makeup. One of my favorites is the BOSCIA Black Charcoal Blotting Linens, you can purchase this at Sephora.
Combination Skin
Combination skin is … and yes you guessed it, a combination of different skin types all in one bundle. Your skin may feel super dry in some areas but there may be other parts where you may be super oily. The T-zone area which is your forehead, chin, and nose are common areas where most people are oily. Your cheeks may be dry or a normal skin type. If you have a combination skin type, you’ll have enlarged pores, blemishes, and a shiny finish on your T-zone area. However, you may find your skin flaky and a tight sensation in other parts of your face as well.
Here are some tips to keep your skin happy:
1. Wear sunscreen! Even in the winter! My favorite sunscreen at the moment is the Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence (2018 Version), you can purchase this on Amazon.
2. Wash your skin with a gentle cleanser every day. Not washing your face is basically the equivalent of not showering! Make sure to wash your face to get rid of all the dirt so that way you won’t wake up with a breakout the next morning.
3. Moisturize! After washing your face always make sure to moisturize your face in order to reduce any dryness.
4. Drink water! I know we’ve all heard this before but its super important. Always stay hydrated.
